Week 3 Part 2- identity
I don’t think that holding back your identity is ethically wrong, I think if you are concerned about fraud and giving too much information away, then it’s fair enough. However, I think pretending to be someone that your not is ethically wrong, because like I have covered in my other post, you could be seriously offending someone, by being racist or putting somebody in danger. When people start lying about their age, sex, race etc it makes me think that the have ulterior motifs, which could potentially be very dangerous. I think that it’s a person own opinion on whether they use their own name, I suppose it is to do with how trusting they are of the internet. I generally do use both of my names on networking sites, but I may be a bit more wary when signing up to things when I’m not entirely sure where my name will be used. Even though on sites when shopping online such as Topshop and Asos your details are secure, some people have the problem with sharing information because there is no face-to-face contact. Some people can find it hard to trust the internet, because they do not have the reassurance that their details are safe, because trusting technology isn’t as encouraging as giving your card to a friendly sales assistant in a shop.
