Journal Criticism 2
The upgrade culture means that technology is continually changing and advancing its products. Therefore, podcasts may be a prominent part of our lives today but it doesn’t mean they will be around long enough to ‘kill the radio’. Like products such as Mini Discs and Walkmans at the time they were really popular but they were soon updated and changed. This means that the radio could be developed in the future to make it more convenient for the listener. Steps have already been made to make it more prominent in our lives, for example incorporating it on mobile phones so that you can listen at any point in your day. Also, another criticism is that many podcasts are developments of popular radio shows; for example, Chris Moyles, Scott Mills and Russell Brand, the fans of these sites download the podcasts in order to listen to more jokes from the show. This shows that there is still a need for the radio, it still has a sense of authority because of these famous figures and because they allow you to know who is number one in the chart first.
